Civic Dialogue and Cross community Activities – Support to start income generating activities as part of the rural development
As per the assessment undertaken in Nabuluwa and Madampe division 5, nine and seven were identified as possible members to undertake backyard poultry in their home gardens. Sethmini organized and arranged the programme with the support of the Department of Animal Production and Health. Field visits and awareness creation were done by Mr. Palitha Munamalpe, livestock development officer of Kahawatte region. Distribution of one month chicks took place on the 26th June 2015, in the Veterinary Surgeon’s office Kahawatte under the guidance of the Veterinary Surgeon, Dr. (Mrs.) P. Wickramaarachchi. She gave basic training to the beneficiaries. Field officers of Caritas Ratnapura - Sethmini participated at this occasion. 09 members of Nabuluwa received 85 numbers of one month chicks and seven members of Madampe division received 65 chicks. Fifty percent of the cost of chicks was borne by the Department and the balance fifty percent was born by Caritas Ratnapura-Sethmini through income generating credit component of the project.
